Bulk CBD Flower Pricing: What You Should Expect to Pay

05 Nov 2026 0 Comments
Bulk CBD flower pricing by the pound and ounce, what moves it (growing method, trim, lab data) and how flower compares with trim. Official and market data.

Bulk CBD flower in the United States generally prices in a band of roughly $130 to $670 per pound, depending mostly on how it was grown and trimmed. USDA’s 2025 figures put hand-trimmed open-grown floral hemp at a median of $235 per pound, and protected-grown at $425. Quantity, batch quality and paperwork move the price from there. This guide breaks the numbers down so you can compare quotes per pound and per ounce, and decide between flower and trim.

TL;DR

  • USDA’s 2025 median for hand-trimmed floral hemp was $235.00 per pound open-grown and $425.00 per pound protected-grown.
  • Hemp Benchmarks’ July 2023 report put average bulk CBD flower at $238 per pound, with observed prices from $50 to $850.
  • Growing method is the biggest price driver: indoor averaged about 5.2 times outdoor in that same report.
  • Trim and flower are different products. Compare price per pound only between like grades, and judge both by batch-specific lab results.
  • Divide any per-pound quote by 16 to get a per-ounce cost, then add shipping and testing terms before choosing.

What bulk CBD flower costs per pound

There is no single market price. Two public data sets give a reliable frame, and they cover different periods, so read them as ranges rather than a current quote.

USDA, 2025 harvest year. The agency’s National Hemp Report lists median prices for floral hemp. Hand-trimmed open-grown flower came in at $235.00 per pound. Hand-trimmed protected-grown flower (greenhouse or indoor structures) came in at $425.00 per pound. These are medians across reporting producers, so half of the sales were above and half below.

Hemp Benchmarks, July 2023. The spot price report assessed bulk CBD flower at $238 per pound, with observed transactions from $50 to $850 per pound. The spread matters more than the average. A $50 pound and an $850 pound are not the same product.

The two sources land close together on the typical figure, even though they come from different years and methods. That suggests a mid-range hand-trimmed pound sits in the low-to-mid $200s on the wholesale market, with premium grades well above.

Converting pounds to ounces

Retail buyers think in ounces and wholesale sellers quote pounds. One pound is 16 ounces, so divide the per-pound price by 16. The figures below are arithmetic on the sourced prices, not offers.

Benchmark Price per pound Equivalent per ounce
USDA 2025 median, open-grown, hand-trimmed $235.00 $14.69
USDA 2025 median, protected-grown, hand-trimmed $425.00 $26.56
Hemp Benchmarks July 2023, average bulk CBD flower $238 $14.88
Hemp Benchmarks July 2023, outdoor average $129 $8.06
Hemp Benchmarks July 2023, greenhouse average $252 $15.75
Hemp Benchmarks July 2023, indoor average $672 $42.00

A worked example: a 5 lb order at $238 per pound is $1,190 before shipping, which is $14.88 per ounce. If a quote arrives per half pound or per kilogram, convert it to per pound first (a kilogram is about 2.2 pounds) so every quote sits on the same scale.

What moves the price

Growing method

This is the largest factor. In the July 2023 Hemp Benchmarks data, indoor-grown bulk CBD flower averaged $672 per pound (range $300 to $850), greenhouse averaged $252 ($150 to $550), and outdoor averaged $129 ($50 to $250). Indoor cost about 5.2 times as much as outdoor.

CBD flower prices by growing method

USDA’s 2025 medians show the same direction: protected-grown hand-trimmed flower sat well above open-grown. Controlled environments cost more to run, and they tend to produce denser, more uniform buds, which is what buyers pay for. Our own comparison of indoor and outdoor CBD flower goes through the quality side in more detail.

Trim method

Hand-trimmed flower takes more labor than machine-trimmed, and the USDA figures above are specifically for hand-trimmed product. When you compare quotes, confirm that both are hand-trimmed or both are machine-trimmed. A cheaper machine-trimmed pound next to a hand-trimmed pound is not a discount, it is a different grade.

Order size

Wholesale sellers typically step the per-pound price down as quantity rises. Product listings are often built around tiers such as half pound, one pound and five pounds. The exact breaks differ by seller, so ask for the tier table rather than assuming a percentage. Buying one tier up can lower the per-pound cost, but only worth it if you can sell or use the extra weight before freshness drops.

Cannabinoid content and genetics

A higher CBD percentage, a distinctive terpene profile or sought-after genetics can raise the price. Buyers in the biomass market are priced per percentage point of CBD: Hemp Benchmarks assessed aggregate CBD biomass at $0.22 per percent-CBD per pound. Flower is priced differently, on appearance, aroma and batch quality as well as potency, so the percentage alone does not set the figure.

Timing in the harvest cycle

Outdoor supply arrives once a year after harvest, and prices can shift with how much of it is on the market. If you buy in the weeks after harvest, you generally have more choice of fresh product. Compare the quote you receive with the benchmark ranges above rather than with last year’s invoice.

Bulk CBD flower vs trim

Buyers often ask whether trim is the cheaper way into bulk. It can be a different tool rather than a discount version of the same product.

Factor Bulk CBD flower CBD trim
What it is Whole buds, trimmed by hand or machine Smaller leaves and pieces left from trimming
Typical use Retail jars, pre-rolls, direct smoking Pre-roll filling, infusing, extraction or blending
Price per pound Higher, and tied to grow method and trim Lower than flower of the same grade, as a general rule
What to compare Bud size, appearance, aroma, trim method Cannabinoid content, moisture, consistency

The general rule is that trim costs less per pound because it is less visually appealing and carries less of the premium that comes with whole buds. It is not a rule that every trim lot is lower in cannabinoids, and no public benchmark we found gives a reliable trim price to quote here. Judge each lot by its own lab report.

If you manufacture pre-rolls, edibles or extracts, trim can fit the job at a lower input cost. If you resell jars on a shelf or ship to consumers, flower is what customers expect to see. We list both: greenhouse CBD flower trim and a Hempress trim lot alongside the full-term flower lines.

What to check before you buy

Price per pound is only the first line of a quote. These are the checks that let you compare two offers fairly.

  1. Batch-specific lab report. The report should match the lot you are buying, with a batch or lot number that appears on the listing and the package. A generic report for a strain name does not describe your pound.
  2. Cannabinoid and THC results. Look at the CBD percentage and the delta-9 THC result. Under federal law, hemp is defined by a delta-9 THC limit of 0.3% on a dry-weight basis, so the report should show the product is within it.
  3. Contaminant panels. Pesticides, heavy metals and microbials are standard sections. Our own flower is grown without pesticides or synthetics, and we recommend that any buyer ask every supplier for the full panel.
  4. Grow method and trim method. Indoor, greenhouse or outdoor, and hand-trimmed or machine-trimmed, stated on the listing.
  5. Photos of the actual lot. Bud size, color and density tell you more than a catalog image.
  6. Total landed cost. Shipping, minimums and payment terms. Divide the total by the pounds to get a true per-pound number.
  7. Return or satisfaction terms. Know the process in writing before you place a large order.

Storing a bulk order

A pound of flower is useless if it degrades before it sells. University of Minnesota Extension’s guidance on drying herbs says to use airtight containers, with glass keeping aromas in, and to keep the contents completely dry in a cool, dark place away from light and heat. The same page notes that freezing at 0°F or lower for at least 48 hours can help destroy insects or insect eggs after drying.

For a bulk buyer this means planning storage before the order ships: enough glass or airtight containers, a dark room, and a rotation system so the oldest stock goes out first. Our hemp flower shelf life guide covers how long it lasts and how to store it.

Perspective

We price bulk the way we think buyers should compare it: by growing method, trim method and batch, not by the lowest number on the page. Our flower is organically grown without pesticides or synthetics and hand-trimmed, and each strain is listed with its own cannabinoid and terpene profile.

The benchmark data shows why that matters. A pound can cost $129 or $672 on average depending on how it was grown. When a buyer asks us what a pound costs, the useful follow-up is what the pound is: greenhouse or indoor, full-term flower or trim, and for what use.

We would rather a reseller choose the right grade for their shelf than the cheapest one. Our wholesale lines cover CBD, THCa and Delta 8, and our 100% satisfaction guarantee applies to what we ship.

FAQ

How much does a pound of CBD flower cost wholesale?

USDA’s 2025 medians were $235.00 per pound for open-grown hand-trimmed floral hemp and $425.00 for protected-grown. Hemp Benchmarks assessed an average of $238 per pound in July 2023, with sales between $50 and $850. Your quote will land within that range depending on grade and quantity.

How do I convert a per-pound price to per ounce?

Divide by 16. A $235 pound is $14.69 per ounce, and a $425 pound is $26.56 per ounce. Add shipping and any fees to the total before dividing if you want the true landed cost.

Is CBD trim cheaper than flower?

Generally yes, per pound, because trim lacks the whole-bud appearance that flower is valued for. It suits pre-rolls, infusing and extraction. Compare lots by their own lab reports, since trim quality varies by batch.

Why is indoor CBD flower so much more expensive than outdoor?

Controlled growing costs more, and the product tends to be denser and more uniform. In July 2023 Hemp Benchmarks data, indoor averaged $672 per pound against $129 for outdoor. Greenhouse sat in between at $252.

How should I store a bulk order?

Use airtight glass containers in a cool, dry, dark place, away from light and heat. Keep the flower completely dry. Rotate stock so the oldest goes out first.
